Professor Ralph T. Holman, PhD. was born and raised in Minneapolis.

He did the pioneer research into Omega-3, and he gave it the name.

He was also a member of the invitational-only National Academy of Science, and was on President Nixon's Scientific Advisory Board.

He raised orchids as a hobby, and did research into propagating the Showy Ladyslipper, our state flower, from seed, which is very difficult to do. He once wrote an article in the DNR's Volunteer magazine, on how to make an artificial bog in which to raise Ladyslippers.

One of his colleagues said of him, "His discoveries have nutritionally improved the lives of millions around the globe."

Dr. Holman passed away from us this past August.
