When you're drunk, that final destination of the night -- the last stop -- just seems so much more important. It's a journey to satisfy your tastes. A quest, if you will. Like finding the Holy Grail or something.

So where to go? Well, some of us want to keep dancing. Some just want to chill out. Most of us want to eat. Eat like zombies.

Whatever the deal, there's plenty to do in the final late-night hours before heading home. So here it is, wasteoids: a guide to the late-night destinations beyond White Castle. Because damn it, people, there's more to life than White Castle.

If you want ...

...to keep dancing

First Avenue
Close: 3 a.m. Thu.-Sat.
Where: 701 1st Av. N., Mpls. 612-338-8388.

The legendary club never lets you down, especially if you're looking to dance past 2 a.m. On Thursdays, there's Latin music in the main room and hip-hop/reggaeton in the VIP room. Friday nights in the VIP room alternate between electronic, disco and a Prince night. Saturdays is Dig Deep night.

Visage
Close: 3 a.m. Wed.-Sat.
Where: 400 3rd Av. N., Mpls. 612-455-2525.

The Euro-style club slows it down with deep house grooves after 2 a.m. Very Ibiza (well, sort of).

...to chill

Azia
Close: 2 a.m.
Where: 2550 Nicollet Av. S., Mpls. 612-813-1200.

Once you've tasted the cranberry cream cheese puffs, they'll beckon you back every night thereafter. For real. Plus, the restaurant/bar's happy hour, which starts at 10 p.m. every night, can't be beat.

Barbette
Close: 2 a.m. weekends.
Where: 1600 W. Lake St., Mpls. 612-827-5710.
The small, arty Uptown eatery is a great place to grab a glass of wine and some quiet time before sleepy time.

Rosewood Room
Close: 4 a.m. Sat.-Sun.
Where: 400 3rd Av. N., Mpls. 612-455-2525.

After Visage's swanky dance room shuts down at 3 a.m., the attached Rosewood Room lounge stays open for clubbers looking to decompress. The posh couches that surround the central fireplace are ideal for flopping down and mulling over your wild night.

...to eat grease

The Dinkytowner
Close: 4 a.m. Fri.-Sat.
Where: 412½ 14th Av. SE., Mpls. 612-362-0427.

The beat-up red booths at the 'Towner are like home to late-night regulars. And who's gonna mess with the Dinkytowner's Tex-Mex? Nobody, that's who.

Little Tijuana Cafe
Close: 3 a.m.
Where: 17 E. 26th St., Mpls. 612-872-0578.

There ain't nothing like Mexican in your belly when you hit the sack. Ugh. But a good ugh.

Mickey's Diner - Downtown St. Paul
Mickey's Diner - West 7th
Close: Open 24 hours.
Where: Two locations. 36 W. 7th St., St Paul. 651-222-5633. 1950 W. 7th St., St Paul. 651-698-8387.

A St. Paul institution -- an institution of grease, that is. Yep, it's the one that's been in all the movies.

Flameburger - Minneapolis
Flameburger - St. Paul
Close: Open 24 hours.
Where: Two locations. 2534 Rice St., Little Canada. 651-483-8444. 4800 Central Av. NE., Columbia Heights. 763-571-3267.

Institution of grease, part deux.

The Uptowner
Close: 3 a.m.
Where: 1100 Grand Av., St Paul. 651-224-6418.

This hidden treasure on Grand Avenue is the Dinkytowner's sister restaurant.

Caffrey's Deli & Subs
Close: 3 a.m.
Where: 3008 Lyndale Av. S., Mpls. 612-822-5551

Not so greasy, actually. Just the most amazing subs you ever tasted -- after 2 a.m., at least.

Pizza Luce
Close: 3:30 a.m. weekends.
Where: 119 N. 4th St., Mpls. 612-333-7359

Still the one place people think of when seeking instant gratification after bar-close.

...to get into something

Bobby & Steve's Auto World
Close: 2:30 a.m.
Where: 1221 Washington Av. S., Mpls. 612-333-8900

The one and only gas station for all your late-night needs unfortunately can't really be there for you anymore. The formerly 24-hour spot now closes between 2:30 a.m. and 3:15 a.m. to avoid any incidents from the after-bar crowd (someone was shot there in early November and a couple Vikings got into a fracas last year). Still, people stream in beforehand to get hot dogs and chicken wings (oh, and gas).

...to keep drinking

You'll need to find an after-bar party -- warehouse party, house party, whatever. We can't help you, though. You're on your own.

...to ogle

The Seville Club
Close: 3 a.m.
Where: 15 Glenwood Av. N., Mpls. 612-465-8777

There isn't another place in Minnesota quite like the Seville. Yes, it has topless dancers, but the owner prefers to call it a cabaret (really). Whatever you want to call it, it's the hot spot after 2 a.m. for downtown clubbers -- men and women alike. Upscale atmosphere, good food, and, um, entertainment.
