
There seemed a point a few years back where you couldn't escape Kate and Jon Gosselin and the NASCAR crash of a life that provided such reality TV fodder as well as TV ratings. Now, what you shouldn't miss is the start of life after reality TV for Kate and the Plus Eight. Thankfully, Slate parses the People magazine interview, so we don't have to. Namely, Kate has gotten use to living a Hollywood life and doesn't know how to keep it all going without being on TV.
It would be easy to dismiss this by saying, "She chose to go on TV; now she has to live with the consequences." But the kids didn't seem to have much of a choice in the matter -- and now they are old enough to realize what's going on and why. Witness this exchange from the "People" piece:
