Inspired by the craze for live TV, the creators of "The Simpsons" — yes, the animated comedy — are planning to insert live elements into the final three minutes of the May 15 episode. Showrunner Al Jean says motion-capture technology will be used to animate actor Dan Castellaneta (voice of Homer) in real time while he provides on-the-fly voice-over on issues of the day. "I think this is a first for animation," Jean said. You think?

Scam sham

Bernie Madoff has a few strong words for ABC after the debut of its miniseries in which he's played by Richard Dreyfuss. "I'm sure it is fruitless to enumerate the numerous fiction and absurd mischaracterization in the ABC movie," he wrote in an e-mail to NBC News. "However I have never been one to turn the other cheek." He declares that he never slapped his son and that his brother was wrongly portrayed as "a pathetic soul." Notably, he didn't deny the whole swindling thing.

New 'Star Wars' stars

Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern have joined the cast of "Star Wars: Episode VIII." … Priyanka Chopra (TV's "Quantico") will play a villainous oil tycoon in "Baywatch," starring Dwayne Johnson and Zac Efron. … Julianne Moore is in talks to play the villain in "Kingsman 2." Taron Egerton will reprise his original role, but don't look for Colin Firth.

Comedy castings

Joel McHale has signed on to CBS' "The Great Indoors." … Josh Hutcherson will star in "Future Man," produced for Hulu by Seth Rogen. … Justin Long will star in the CBS soccer comedy "Dream Team."

"We must open our hearts and wallets for Kanye today. Sure he is personally rich and can buy furs and houses for his family, but without our help, the true genius of Kanye West can't be realized," Piatt's pitch reads. As of the middle of last week, he had raised $432 from 72 suckers, um, fellow fans.
