Mo' bitter

Remember when Mo'Nique won an Oscar for "Precious"? She's done precious little in the five years since, and she reveals it's because she's been blackballed. She says director Lee Daniels told her she'd been shunned in Hollywood because she is "difficult" and refused to "play the game." She also quotes Hattie McDaniel, the first African-American to win an Oscar: "Hattie said, 'After I won that award, it was as if I had done something wrong.' It was the same with me."

'Orange' is the new drama

The Emmys have altered their rules regarding what constitutes a comedy: It must be 30 minutes or less. This puts "Orange Is the New Black," for example, in the drama category where it belongs. … Judd Apatow is producing "Pee-wee's Big Holiday" for Netflix. The streaming service also will offer updated versions of "Inspector Gadget" and "Danger Mouse" later this month. … Marisa Tomei will play Gloria Steinem in an HBO miniseries produced by George Clooney. … Jason Jones announced he'll leave "The Daily Show," the better to concentrate on a TBS comedy starring him and wife Samantha Bee (who's remaining on "TDS"). … The series finale of "Parks and Recreation" was its most-watched episode since 2011. … Four more years! The Kardashians have signed a $100 million contract with the E! channel that extends to 2019.

Jessica Chastain and Emily Blunt join Chris Hemsworth and Charlize Theron in the spinoff "The Huntsman." … Ang Lee directs the adaptation of the bestseller "Billy Lynn's Long Halftime Walk," which will star newcomer Joe Alwyn, chosen after a worldwide search.

Nerd alert

Settlers of Catan will be a TV show, or a movie, or something other than a board game sometime in the future. Producer Gail Katz, who bought the rights, said, "I've been wanting to see an adaptation of the game for years, ever since my Catan-obsessed college-aged kids introduced me to it." Now if only someone would develop a Cones of Dunshire miniseries.
