Tips on gardening and summer entertaining

Planning a summer soiree or garden party? Bachman's is hosting an "Inspiration Night: Spring Fling — Your Invite to a Successful Summer" on May 27.

From 4 to 8 p.m., the flagship store will offer sips, samples, shopping and expert instruction related to gardening and summer entertaining. Six seminars will demonstrate how to execute some of the latest outdoor living trends, including square-foot gardening and companion plants, selecting plants and shrubs, spring and summer floral design, entertaining in your outdoor room, container design and garden solutions. The demos repeat at 4:30, 5:15, 6 and 6:45 p.m.

Professionals from Bachman's wedding floral design, landscaping and garden maintenance will be on hand to answer questions.

The cost is $10, plus a $1.54 Eventbrite fee, which includes light bites and wine (for those 21 and over), plus a coupon for 10 percent off Bachman's purchases.

Perennial gardens

Learn how to create a beautiful landscape using perennials at a free seminar at Gertens on May 23 at 1 p.m. You'll learn about soils, fertilizing, garden design and management, for full sun and shady sites. Gertens is located at 5500 Blaine Av., Inver Grove Heights.

Last call for lawn help

If you're still hoping to plant the seeds for a better-looking lawn this season, you have one more opportunity to attend Gertens' free lawn-care workshop, where a lawn expert will answer questions.

This is the time of year to deal with crab grass and dandelion prevention. You'll also learn about products and tools available to help produce beautiful lawns. The workshop will be structured in a Q&A format, so bring your questions.

The last free lawn workshop will be at 10 a.m. on May 23 at Gertens, 5500 Blaine Av., Inver Grove Heights.
