Growing shrub roses

Want to brighten up your yard or garden plot with some blooming color? Attend a free seminar on growing shrub roses, 6 p.m. June 2 at Gertens. You'll learn how to grow and care for hardy rose varieties that deliver long-lasting blooms. Gertens is located at 5500 Blaine Av., Inver Grove Heights.

Containers in the shade

Shady sites call for shade-loving plants. If you're looking for ideas about what will thrive in your conditions, Bachman's is offering a series of Container Design Workshops, including one focused on growing in the shade. You'll learn how to follow the "thriller, filler, spiller" formula to design a show-stopping container using shade-loving plants that will last the whole growing season. The $50 cost covers all materials. The workshop will be offered 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday in the Design Room at Bachman's on Lyndale, 6010 Lyndale Av. S., Mpls. To register, call 612-861-7311 or visit www.bachmans.com.
