The new $350,000, 3,000-square-foot Dean Kutz Memorial Chapel at Canterbury Park will have a dedication ceremony and cookout beginning at 6 p.m. today. The chapel is named after the late jockey Dean Kutz, who twice led the track's standings and became the first rider inducted into Canterbury's Hall of Fame.
Following a kidney transplant in 1985, Kutz became a fan favorite as he cruised to riding titles in 1987 and 1988.
Though he spent the 1990s riding with success on the Kentucky circuit, Kutz returned to Canterbury in 2002 and battled throat cancer.
He died in September 2004.
