The Barrio taco truck hits St. Thomas on Wednesday

Barrio fans have been clamoring to get a look at the restaurant's highly-anticipated taco truck. While most thought it wouldn't hit the streets until next year, you can get a sneak peek at the truck (and eat some free tacos) tomorrow.

Thought you had to wait until next year to sample the much anticipated Barrio taco truck? Think again. Barrio co-owner Josh Thoma tells me that the 26-foot Barrio truck will make its debut at the University of St. Thomas (corner of Cretin and Summit in St. Paul) from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Wednesday. Best of all: They'll be giving out free tacos. A DJ will be spinning music in the cab.

If, for some reason, you've been living under a rock, Barrio is the wildly popular bar that has locations in downtown Minneapolis and in St. Paul's Lowertown. The bars are overseen by Thoma and James Beard-award winning chef Tim McKee. The tequila bar's tacos come in different varieties (mahi mahi, spiced shrimp, grilled skirt steak). All are divine. On Wednesday they will be serving mostly pork carnitas tacos.

The truck's stop at St. Thomas will help promote Barrio St. Paul's new Thursday nights with DJ Jonathan Ackerman (of the Moon Goons). Thoma said the truck might make a couple of other public appearances before coming out in "full force" next spring.
