The arguments for (and against) Kalil, Claiborne and Blackmon

April 26, 2012 at 8:54PM

MATT KALIL/LT, SOUTHERN CALIFORNIA

For: Could anchor left side for a decade.

Against: Team needs playmakers more.

Mark Craig says: A good, solid blue-chip pick. But can he cover Brandon Marshall and Megatron?

MORRIS CLAIBORNE/CB, LOUISIANA STATE

For: Shutdown cornerback in a pass-happy division.

Against: Team has decent CB depth; Kalil much safer pick.

Dan Wiederer says: Kalil is a fantastic talent who fills an obvious need. But Claiborne also fits that description.

JUSTIN BLACKMON/ WR, OKLAHOMA STATE

For: Instant weapon for young QB Christian Ponder.

Against: Not a sure-fire star, and the draft is deep at WR.

Vikings GM Rick Spielman says: "Our philosophy is trying to get our young quarterback as many weapons around him as we can."

FILE -- A rent deposit slot at an apartment complex in Tucker, Ga., on July 21, 2020.
