This hardly qualifies as breaking news since it happened more than 20 years ago, but it is news to us. See, we grew up loving the Atlanta Braves -- as many of you know -- and we rooted BIG-TIME for Atlanta in the 1991 World Series. This is not a joke. As such, our Twins knowledge before, say, 1996, has some gaps. So we've basically just assumed all these years that Jack Morris was still a slam-dunk ace when he arrived for his one season with the Twins in 1991 -- the one that REGRETTABLY ended with a teenage RandBall having his heart broken by Jack's 10-inning gem in Game 7.

So we were stunned to learn, in the course of a little internet research for another project, that Morris -- a bulldog in the 80s for the Tigers -- looked to be fading considerably in 1989 and 1990 for Detroit before coming to the Twins and going 18-12.

As in, he was a combined 21-32 and had ERAs above 4.50 both seasons.

If you already knew all this, please carry on.
