Team Marketing Report released its annual review of how much it costs for a family of four to attend NBA games every market. Called the "Fan Cost Index," it comprises the price of four average-price tickets, two cheapest beers, four cheapest soft drinks, four hot dogs, parking for one car, two game programs and two least-expensive, adult-size hats.
For Timberwolves games in 2014-15, the FCI has been calculated at $281.06 — about 50 bucks less than the NBA average of $333.58. A total of 12 teams are less expensive, while 17 are more expensive. Knicks games are by far the most expensive, at $676.42 for a family of four.
The NBA report closely follows the release of the NHL report, which came out in October. That showed the FCI for Wild games is $383.25 — about 20 bucks above the league average of $363.58 and about $100 more than the cost of a Wolves game, by comparison, for a family of four.
Different sports … different arenas … and different levels of recent success, of course. Just an interesting comparison, still, since the seasons have so much overlap. Here is the rest of the NHL report for reference.
