Hurricane Ike has pushed back the Arkansas-Texas game to Sept. 27.
The hurricane is on a course for landfall in Texas this weekend.
Texas athletic director DeLoss Dodds said the university believes the best thing to do is postpone the game, which had been set for Saturday in Austin.
Irish to unveil Holtz statue Notre Dame will honor its last national championship team on Saturday and dedicate a statue to the coach of that undefeated 1988 squad, Lou Holtz. "I think it's as high an honor as I could ever receive," said Holtz, who coached the Irish for 11 seasons.
Former Colorado coach dies Eddie Crowder, who spent nearly half a century at the University of Colorado as a football coach, athletic director and mentor to generations of players, coaches and administrators, died Tuesday night from complications of leukemia, the school said. He was 77. Crowder compiled a record of 67-49-2 in 11 seasons as Colorado's coach, from 1963 to 1973.
Etc. • Rutgers will play host to North Carolina tonight on the seventh anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks. It will be the only major contest in the New York area. Rutgers plans to hold ceremonies to honor those who died in the attacks on the World Trade Center.
• LSU has scheduled its return to Tiger Stadium on Saturday night to host North Texas, one week after postponing its game with Troy because of Hurricane Gustav.
