The early morning parking crush at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is easing and officials say that the parking ramp at Terminal 1 now has space.

Earlier Wednesday, all 16,000 parking spots in the ramp at the main terminal were in use, said airport spokesman Patrick Hogan.

It might seem unusual that the ramp would be at capacity on a weekday when school is in session, but it happens about 45 times a year, Hogan said.

He attributed the lack of parking to heavy business travel combined with some leisure travel.

Passengers who need to park at the airport can use the ramp at Terminal 2 (the Humphrey Terminal) and ride the light-rail train to Terminal 1. There is no charge to ride the train. Terminal 2 was 50 percent full as of 1:15 p.m.

Real-time parking information is posted on the airport's parking information web site and available by phone at 1-877-359-7275.
