Security lines at Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport are not the only place passengers have been kept waiting this summer.

Passengers wishing to enroll in the Transportation Security Administration's PreCheck program have faced long waits, too. Some travelers have had to wait more than three weeks to get an appointment at the enrollment centers in Brooklyn Center, Bloomington and the MSP Airport.

To alleviate that problem, TSA will operate a temporary screening center Aug. 23-27 at the Hilton Minneapolis/St. Paul Airport Mall of America (3800 American Blvd. E., Bloomington). IdentoGO by MorphoTrust, the company enlisted by the TSA for the process, will enroll travelers from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Aug. 23-24 and from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 25-27. The temporary center will be able to serve up to 1,000 applicants, said Elizabeth Marshall, MorphoTrust USA's director of marketing.

Appointments can be made at IdentoGO.com/tsaprechecktour.

PreCheck applicants who pass a background check and pay $85 for a five-year period may bypass standard screening and use special lanes that allow them to leave their shoes, belts and light jackets on. Laptops may remain in carry-on luggage, making passing through security faster.

MorphoTrust has also run temporary enrollment centers in New York, Dallas, Miami, Chicago, Orlando, Los Angeles, Denver, Seattle, Las Vegas, Atlanta, Boston and Houston.

"We did this in response to heavy media coverage about long lines and unfortunate traveler experiences at busy airports," Marshall said. "People were missing flights stuck in security lines."

Travelers should bring cash, check or credit card payment along with a passport or birth certificate and a current driver's license to their appointments.
