A teenager who was charged in the beating of a former Minneapolis mayoral candidate at the Mall of America has received probation and been ordered to attend treatment.

Deea Leshawn Elliott, now 18, was charged with two felony counts of aggravated first-degree robbery and one felony count of second-degree assault against Mark Andrew, who was beaten when he chased a boy who stole his iPhone from a Starbucks at the Mall of America in December

The sentence was issued by Anoka County District Court, where the case was moved because of Andrew's former high-profile role as chairman of the Hennepin County Board, but it will be served in Hennepin County.

Bloomington police had arrested a 15-year-old boy on suspicion of stealing the phone. Another 18-year-old girl was charged with two counts of first-degree aggravated robbery and one count of second-degree assault.

Elliott, who was 17 at the time of the assault, will be on probation until she is 21. She also received a stayed four-year incarceration if she violates her probation. She must attend an arts program and nearly five months of outpatient behavior treatment and pay restitution.
