A teenager driving a pickup truck ran a red light just northwest of the Twin Cities and struck a van, killing the other motorist in a collision that also left seven people injured, authorities said Wednesday.

The crash occurred about 8 p.m. Tuesday at Hwy. 10 and Sherburne County Road 11 between Becker and Big Lake, the State Patrol said.

Killed was Charles P. Maurer, 54, of Becker. One person in each vehicle was seriously injured, while five others were less seriously hurt, the patrol added.

According to the patrol:

Those injured in Garlock's pickup were all friends from Little Falls. Carlee R. Bollig, 17, was seriously hurt. George E. Saldana, 18, and Caysi J. Jaronske, 16, suffered less serious injuries.

Those injured in the van were Maurer's daughters Alenita M. Maurer, 15, and Casey Maurer, and friend Alora K. Nelson, of Becker. Casey Maurer was the most seriously hurt of the three.

Everyone in both vehicles was wearing seat belts, the patrol said. There was no alcohol use by either driver detected, the patrol added.
