A 17-year-old boy was pulled from a lake in Shakopee on Friday afternoon after he was reportedly underwater for around 30 minutes.

A little before 2 p.m., emergency crews were called to a reported drowning at O'Dowd Lake.

The boy had been fishing with others at the north end of the lake when the group decided to use a raft to travel to a popular island that has a tree swing, said Capt. Jeff Swedin of the Scott County Sheriff's Office. The boy had gotten off the raft to swim to shore, which was 20 to 30 yards away when he went under, Swedin said.

The boy was located by law enforcement and taken to St. Francis Regional Medical Center, where he remained in critical condition Friday night.
