A teenage driver attempting to pass another vehicle on a snowy Minnesota highway after dark west of Brainerd crashed into an oncoming pickup truck and was killed, authorities said.

The crash of the two pickups occurred shortly after 6:30 p.m. Tuesday on Hwy. 210 in the Cass County community of Sylvan Township, according to the State Patrol.

Killed was Devin S. Alexander, 18, of nearby Baxter, the patrol said.

Alexander was heading west on Hwy. 210 near County Road 1, when he lost control of his pickup on the snowy road and was struck broadside by the eastbound pickup, the patrol said.

There were six people, ages 15 to 17, in the eastbound pickup. Three suffered noncritical injuries, and the others were not hurt, according to the patrol.
