Police are searching for suspects in the shooting death of a 17-year-old teenager in north Minneapolis.

He was shot shortly before 2 a.m. Sunday, but authorities have not released his name.

Police said they were called to the 1600 block of Newton Avenue N. on a report of a shooting. When officers arrived, they found the teen with a gunshot wound to his stomach in a grassy boulevard in front of a home, police spokesman John Elder said. Elder said the teen was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died Sunday afternoon. Elder said the Hennepin County medical examiner would release his name and a cause of death, likely on Monday

Officers canvassed the neighborhood and interviewed several people, but police have not made any arrests in the shooting.

Anyone with information is asked to call the Minneapolis Police Department at 612-692-TIPS (8477) or send a text to 847 411 (tip 411) and enter MPD and the tip.
