A Roseville teenager was killed when he crashed his SUV in a construction zone early Thursday in Lake Elmo, authorities said.

Michael P. Schweiger, 17, died in the wreck about 3:30 a.m. on westbound Hwy. 36 just west of Lake Elmo Avenue, the Minnesota State Patrol said.

The patrol said Schweiger's vehicle struck a dirt pile in a closed-off section of the construction zone and rolled over.

The teenager was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from the vehicle, the patrol said. He died at the scene.

Passengers Ryan J. Holz , 17, of Arden Hills and Logan N. Hayek, 16, whose hometown was not disclosed, were taken to Regions Hospital with noncritical injuries. Both were wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, the patrol said.
