A teenager has been arrested two days after police in Bemidji suspected him of fatally shooting a 20-year-old man and wounding a 17-year-old.

Police announced the arrest Wednesday afternoon of an 18-year-old from Bemidji in connection with the gunfire Monday night at a residence in the 1100 block of Minnesota Avenue. The suspect has yet to be charged. The Star Tribune generally does not identify suspects before they are charged.

The teen was apprehended without incident in the 2800 block of Ridgeway Avenue NW., about 2 miles south of the crime scene, said Police Capt. David LaZella.

Authorities first learned of the gunfire after the 17-year-old male arrived at Sanford Hospital in Bemidji with a gunshot wound.

Sheriff's dispatch then directed police and Beltrami County deputies to the home, where they located the young man dead outside.

The wounded teenager has since been released from the hospital, police said Wednesday.

Authorities have yet to disclose the identity of either shooting victim, other than to report their ages and say they are from Bemidji, or explain the circumstances leading up to the violence.
