Tech toys, wearables hit the runway at Verizon store

The store staged a "tech fashion show" to promote holiday gadgets, including wearable technology.

Tech and fashion. A few years ago that would've been an odd combination.

But in the age of "wearables" it's not that far-fetched. If we're going be donning high-tech watches or fitness gadgets or even sensor-laden clothing, it better look good. Or at least not look BAD.

So, today I attended my first-ever "tech fashion show." Basically, an amusing Verizon stunt to show off all sorts of gizmos (wearable and not) and entice holiday shoppers at their Mall of America store. There were watches, cameras, smartphones, drones and even "smart" sporting equipment. They dropped gadgets to show off sturdy cases, plunged some into water to show they could survive.

A couple dozen bloggers and tech enthusiasts tweeted and Instagrammed with the hashtag #VZTechHoliday. Me? I snapped a bunch of blurry, backlit photos. A couple that can be salvaged are below.

If you want a better glimpse of the high-tech toys, they'll be staging another run of the show for the public at 7 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 20, at the Verizon Destination Store at Mall of America.
