Teachers' union passes on endorsement for governor at weekend meeting

Education Minnesota PAC board didn't decide on a candidate at Saturday meeting

Minnesota's powerful teachers' union didn't decide on a gubernatorial candidate to back at a weekend meeting, said spokesman Doug Dooher.

Backing from the 70,000-member Education Minnesota could give a DFL candidate important momentum for his or her campaign.

The PAC board, made up of 25 educators from across the state, has its next scheduled meeting on March 6. That could push the endorsement decision after the state's February caucus.

But Dooher said the board could vote to have a meeting between now and then.

Update: Dooher, Education Minnesota spokesman, said that the PAC board decided to meet "sometime in early February, but no specific date has been picked."
