The Guthrie Theater long has had a service to rent old costumes for Halloween and other dress-up occasions.

In a new program, it announced Friday that it would offer the public guideded tours of its costume-rental facility. The 40-minute tours are available the first and third Saturday of every month at 11:30 a.m. beginning April 21, and cost $12, or $7 for groups, seniors, students and subscribers. The theater's costume rental building is at 855 E. Hennepin Avenue in Minneapolis. Call 612-377-2224 for reservations. Tickets may also be purchased in person at the facility on the day of tours.

On the tours, guides will talk about the craft of costume production and describe specific costumes from past shows. The project houses more than 30,000 costumes and is joint undertaking of the Guthrie and Children's Theatre Company.

Quinton Skinner of the Guthrie said the costume shop is "a revelation" that is "much like the world's biggest closet belonging to the broadest cast of characters imaginable."
