The long list for nonfiction was released today; fiction is tomorrow.

The folks at the National Book Awards continue to roll out the long lists this week, one category per day. Today was nonfiction:

Martha Hodes, "Mourning Lincoln"

Sally Mann, "Hold Still: A Memoir with Photographs"

Sy Montgomery, "The Soul of an Octopus: A Surprising Exploration into the Wonder of Consciousness"

Susanna Moore, "Paradise of the Pacific: Approaching Hawai'i"

Michael Paterniti, "Love and Other Ways of Dying"

Carla Power, "If the Oceans Were Ink: An Unlikely Friendship and a Journey to the Heart of the Quran"

Michael White, "Travels in Vermeer: A Memoir"

The short list will be revealed Oct. 14, and the winners will be announced Nov. 18.
