Even in the midst of the Great Recession, a self-described libertarian from St. Cloud is making a tidy – and growing – living by churning out t-shirt designs that he then sells via an Internet marketing company.

"It's pretty amazing that what starts out as a side income for a lot of people, but I've been able to make a living while sitting in my living room," said Dan McCall, a commercial artist who's been designing and selling for the past couple of years. "And this whole Obama thing has been great for business."

Specifically, he has cranked out a host of shirts featuring President Obama as a socialist, a messianic figure or worse. "A lot of it's not-too-subtle satire," McCall said. "Some are so completely over the top and outrageous that I can't imagine someone buying them, much less wearing them. But they do."

An anti-war libertarian, McCall has worked with some like-minded Republicans from his part of the state and supported Rep. Ron Paul in his long-shot presidential bid last year.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
