Swing into Meet Minneapolis for a free bike safety check

To get people out on their two-wheelers, the organization that promotes the City of Lakes is offering free bike checks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at its office at 505 Nicollet Mall.

The weather has turned nice and the folks at Meet Minneapolis are all about biking.

To get people out on their two-wheelers, the organization that promotes the City of Lakes is offering free bike checks from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday at its office at 505 Nicollet Mall.

Varsity Bike and Transit will give riders a full safety check, including checking tires, lubing the chain and brake as well as derailleur adjustments.

Nice Ride Minnesota will give demonstrations and have giveaways. There also will be bike helmet fitting as well as concussion and brain injury awareness by the Minnesota Brain Injury Alliance.

And to be sure riders look good, lots of bike-themed merchandise by local artists Brian Giehl of Dog Fish Media and Tammy Rice of Stonyhill & Companies will be for sale.
