Cocktails at the Castle

Twin Cities Swedes and art mavens unleash their inner party animal to celebrate "A Different Way of Seeing," an eclectic mix of paintings, lithographs, watercolors and sculpture on loan from a private collection. The owners, Ann and Sam Charters, were party pioneers in the 1950s and '60s when she wrote the biography of Beat Generation legend Jack Kerouac and he was an influential roots-music historian and jug-band enthusiast who wound up producing albums by the likes of Country Joe & the Fish. Imbibe a bit of their stardust at this fall's coolest party with pop-up performances by Dancebums, tunes by ZuluZuluu, Jennifer Davis' art installations in the garden, and a dance party with DJ Sarah White. Plus craft cocktails and food from Fika. (Party 7-11 p.m. Fri., $20. American Swedish Institute, 2600 Park Av. S., Mpls. Exhibit ends Oct. 30. $10 adults. 612-871-4907 or asimn.org). Mary Abbe
