Thunderstorms will impact a large portion of the northern Plains and MidwestSaturday and Saturday night. Some of the storms will become severe, producinghail the size of golf balls and wind gusts over 60 miles per hour, and there isalso a strong likelihood for some tornadoes. The severe weather will be triggered by low pressure moving across the regionin combination with hot, humid air streaming in from the south.

One thing to take note of is how severe thunderstorm patterns have shiftednorth with the passage of seasons. During the spring, the South was in harm'sway, but from now into July the belt most prone to damaging storms is from thecentral and northern Plains across the Midwest to the Northeast.
