Steve Sviggum -- former Minnesota House Speaker, former University of Minnesota regent, former University of Minnesota School of Public Affairs fellow, former Minnesota Senate spokesman -- will soon remove one of the former's from his name.
Sviggum plans to return to the University of Minnesota as a Humphrey legislative fellow, he said Wednesday.
In 2011, Sviggum briefly had the job at the U's Humphrey School while he was a University of Minnesota regent. But when an ad hoc Regents committee suggested he should have to chose between the job and the unpaid regent position, he decided to stay on the board of regents and gave up the Humphrey gig.
The next year, while still a regent, Sviggum took a job as the Minnesota Senate's communications director. The rest of the regents decided that he should have to chose between the legislative work and the unpaid regent's board. He chose the job.
This year, after Republicans lost the Senate, Sviggum left the Senate job.
He said that he will return to the U.
"I love to teach and I love being in the classroom," said Sviggum, who said the new/old gig will take up 60 percent of his time.
Meanwhile, he said that he has not completely closed the door on running for a future office.
