Modern muscle returns

The return of the iconic Dodge Challenger brings ground-shaking performance, unmistakable design cues reminiscent of the original Challenger, world-class ride and handling, and benchmark braking, opines Motormatters.biz. It's priced at $37,995 and arrives in showrooms this spring.

Fave cars from Pop Mech

Popular Mechanics magazine (PM) has named three top car faves, Motormatters.biz recently reported. In third place is the Mitsubishi RA Concept because it "looks muscular and ready to pounce." In second is the Audi R8 Concept. The car that PM rates as the top is the Corvette ZR1 because the 620-hp engine under that hood "should make it the most thrilling car on the planet."

Where no Acura has gone before

That's how Auto Week describes the major styling makeover of the 2009 Acura RL. Acura hopes the more distinctive styling will help its flagship model stand out in a sea of luxury sedans and improve sales figures. "By the end of the year, you won't mistake an Acura for anything else on the road," promised Acura vice president Dick Coliver recently. Visually, the 2009 RL sports a bold front grille and a BMW-like trunk lid. A 3.7-liter, 300-horsepower V-6 engine powers the new model. The RL goes on sale this spring.

Isuzu recently announced that as of Jan. 31, 2009, it would discontinue selling new Isuzu passenger vehicles in North America, Motor Matters recently reported. The discontinuation results from the prospective cessation of production by General Motors of the Isuzu Ascender and the i-290 and i-370 pickup trucks. "It has always been our intention to remain in the U.S. market," said Terry Maloney, president and COO. "However, we were unable to secure any commercially viable replacements for these vehicles."

Aretha's pink Cadillac

A 2008 Cadillac CTS was recently customized with a special pink paint and hand-signed by Aretha Franklin for a charitable auction, according to Motor Matters.
