A man walking along a Beltrami County road with two other people dashed in front of a snowplow-equipped SUV and was fatally struck, authorities said Thursday.

The incident occurred shortly before 8 p.m. Wednesday along Roosevelt Road SE., northeast of Cass Lake, the Sheriff's Office said.

Killed was Timothy J. Widstrom, 32, of Walker, Minn.

According to the Sheriff's Office:

The SUV was heading north on Roosevelt, while Widstrom and two companions were walking south on the west side of the road.

Widstrom "suddenly ran across the southbound lane into the path of the northbound vehicle and was struck," the Sheriff's Office statement read.

The driver Clifford F. Beaulieu, 20, of Cass Lake, said he did not see the man, who was wearing dark clothing.

Ambulance personnel arrived and began efforts to save the man's life. He was declared dead at the scene.
