An SUV crossed to the wrong side of the road south of the Twin Cities and fatally struck a motorcyclist heading the other way, authorities said Monday.

The crash occurred about 3:50 p.m. Sunday on County Road 3 near Kilkenny in Le Sueur County, according to the State Patrol.

The motorcyclist, identified as Edward E. Lipscomb, 65, of Lakeville, was wearing a helmet, the patrol said.

The SUV, driven by Kimberly M. Stangler, 51, of Kilkenny, was heading south on County Road 3, crossed the centerline and hit Lipscomb's motorcycle head-on, the patrol said.

Stangler was taken to hospital in Faribault with noncritical injuries. The patrol said alcohol use by Stangler was a potential factor in the crash.
