A gunman fatally shot a man in a retail area of Rochester, broke into a home in the city minutes later and was arrested, officials said.

Officers were dispatched about 9:35 p.m. on Jan. 25 to the 1200 block of Marion Road SE. and found a man on the ground with a gunshot wound, police said.

The victim was taken by ambulance to a nearby hospital and died that night, according to police.

About five minutes after the shooting, officers were sent to a home about 2¾ miles southeast of the shooting scene, to the 2700 block of Marion Road SE., regarding a gunman who broke into a home.

The intruder, who was familiar with the home’s residents, was identified as the shooting suspect and was arrested, police said. Charges against the man are pending. Police did not release his identity.

“Preliminary investigation indicates the victim and suspect were related,” a police statement read.
