A New Brighton man is accused of fatally shooting a man in St. Paul while on pretrial release from two felony cases in August, according to charges filed Tuesday.
Witnesses told police that Kireice Williams, 24, shot and killed Levon T. Washington, 26, of Minneapolis, on Aug. 16 in the Frogtown neighborhood after a brief interaction, the criminal complaint said.
At the time of the shooting, Williams was on pretrial release from two cases that involve allegations of conspiracy to commit aggravated robbery and a drive-by shooting.
Court records indicate he was released from custody June 10 after posting a $100,000 bond.
Williams was barred from possessing firearms as a condition of his release, records show. He is being held in the Ramsey County jail. His attorney did not return a request for comment late Wednesday.
The Minnesota Star Tribune was unable to reach members of Washington’s family on Wednesday. A GoFundMe page to raise funds for a memorial service described Washington as “a very caring, loving young man who loved his family and friends.”
According to the complaint:
Police were called to the 300 block of Edmund Avenue in St. Paul shortly after 4 a.m. on a report of a shooting. They found Washington in the street, and he later died at a hospital.
