February 16, 2011 at 4:58AM

Former Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner has taken a job with the law firm of Gray Plant Mooty, which has offices in Minneapolis, St. Cloud and Washington, D.C.

Gaertner, 56, of White Bear Lake, will focus on litigation, complex investigations and white-collar defense work, according to a statement from the law firm. She will represent clients in government investigations by local, state and federal agencies.

She was elected in 1994 and served until she was succeeded last month by former St. Paul City Attorney John Choi. She was the first woman and only the fourth person to hold the job since 1933.

"Gray Plant Mooty is the perfect place to launch the next chapter of my career," Gaertner said. "The firm has a sterling reputation in the legal and business communities and is very strong in the areas I will practice."
