Survivors of Farmington apartment fire jumped to safety

July 11, 2017 at 2:30AM

Two people escaped from a burning four-plex in Farmington Sunday night by jumping from a second-story window, the Fire Chief Jim Larsen said.

The fire in the building on the 300 block of Pine Street blocked the stairwell, forcing the victims to jump. They were taken to a hospital with various injuries, Larsen said.

A firefighter battling the blaze was taken to Northfield Hospital, where he was treated for heat exhaustion and released, Larsen said.

It was not immediately clear what caused the fire, which broke out about 9:16 p.m. The fire was contained to a single unit, but all residents have been displaced from the building, Larsen said.
