Sunshine outside, event inside

As crowds gathered in the sun to get inside the University of Minnesota Field House, the room fills

When a president visits, a lot is in his control. But not the weather.

Presidential Barack Obama's rally for Democratic gubernatorial candidate was supposed to outside on the University of Minnesota's Mall. But, at the last minute, it was moved inside to the U's Field House because reports forecast rain.

But hundreds waiting outside to get into the venue...waited in the sun.

Dayton was keeping his eye on the weather just like everyone else.

"It is sunny and clear here," he said Saturday morning from western Minnesota where he had gone pheasant hunting with U.S. Rep. Collin Peterson. (Peterson bagged two; Dayton did not.)

The former U.S. Senator said he felt badly for anyone who couldn't get in to the field house.

"I apologize in advance to those who can't get in and for the traffic," Dayton said.

Still, he said, the event is a fabulous one for the campaign and the DFL party.

"It's great for our supporters," Dayton said.

As an eviction crisis has seemed increasingly likely this summer, everyone in the housing market has made the same plea to Washington: Send money — lots of it — that would keep renters in their homes and landlords afloat.
