SOCCER

Wizards make Chicago wait for playoffs Michael Harrington atoned for a first-half mistake with a second-half goal, salvaging a 1-all draw for the Kansas City Wizards against the Chicago Fire in Kansas City, Mo.

Harrington's handball in the area enabled Chicago to take a 1-0 lead on Cuauhtemoc Blanco's penalty kick in first-half stoppage time. Harrington's equalizer just after the half kept Chicago (12-9-6) from clinching a playoff spot in Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference. The Fire (8-10-9) can clinch a postseason berth if fourth-place New York loses Thursday at Real Salt Lake.

On Saturday night, two goals in the first nine minutes by Brian Ching led Houston (11-5-10) to a 3-1 victory over the Colorado Rapids (10-13-4) in Commerce City, Colo.
