GOLF

Stanford tops Feng for Bell Micro title Angela Stanford won the Bell Micro LPGA Classic on Sunday for her second career Tour title, holing a 3 1/2-foot par putt on the final hole for a 1-over-par 73 and a one-stroke victory over China's Shanshan Feng, who shot a 68 in Mobile, Ala.

"It's been so long," said Stanford, also the 2003 ShopRite LPGA Classic winner.

Stanford had an 11-under 277 total on the Crossings course at Magnolia Grove and earned $210,000.

R.W. Eaks successfully defended his Greater Hickory Classic title, closing with a 1-under 71 for a four-stroke victory over Tom Jenkins and Tom Kite in Conover, N.C.

Chris Tidland won the Boise Open for his first Nationwide Tour title, closing with a 7-under 64 for a four-stroke victory over Scott Piercy in Boise, Idaho.

Robert Karlsson got his first victory in two years, shooting 1-under 71 for a two-stroke victory over Francesco Molinari in the Mercedes-Benz Championship in Pulheim, Germany.

TENNIS

Russia tops Spain in Fed Cup final Russia won its fourth Fed Cup title in five years when Svetlana Kuznetsova beat Spain's Anabel Medina Garrigues 5-7, 6-3, 6-4 in the reverse singles for an unassailable 3-0 lead. Kuznetsova, 23, took a 4-0 lead in the first set before Medina Garrigues found a response to her powerful groundstrokes. She rallied to take the first set, but was outmatched the rest of the way.

• Second-seeded Patty Schnyder of Switzerland won her first title in three years, defeating Austrian teenager Tamira Paszek 6-3 6-0 in the Bali Open final in Nusa Dua, Indonesia.

CYCLING

Vande Velde wins Tour of Missouri Christian Vande Velde won the Tour of Missouri on Sunday, finishing with the main pack in the rain-shortened final stage. Vande Velde, 32, an Illinois rider competing for Garmin-Chipotle, edged Australia's Michael Rogers (Team Columbia) by 18 seconds.

Alberto Contador of Spain extended his lead in the Spanish Vuelta, edging American Levi Leipheimer by two seconds in the 14th stage. Contador leads Leipheimer, his Astana teammate, by 1:17 in the overall standings.

• Lance Armstrong was part of a three-man team that won the inaugural 12 Hours of Snomass mountain bike race in Colorado. Armstrong's team included Max Taam and Len Zanni. In the event, each rider takes a lap up Fanny Hill on the mountain and then switches off. Armstrong's Livestrong team beat Team Beaver Creek with both teams completing 17 laps, but Livestrong was 6:39 faster.

PARALYMPICS

Vergeer wins gold and 349th match in row Esther Vergeer won her 349th consecutive match, capturing the gold medal in women's wheelchair tennis with a victory over Dutch teammate Korie Howman in Beijing. Vergeer won 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (5) and extended a streak that has lasted 5 1/2 years.

South African swimmer Natalie Du Toit won her fifth and final gold, taking the 50-meter freestyle.

BOXING

Forrest, Marquez win in Las Vegas Vernon Forrest reclaimed his WBC 154-pound title Saturday night, battering Sergio Mora in a unanimous decision that reestablished the veteran Forrest, 37, as an elite junior middleweight.

Later, in his lightweight debut, Juan Manuel Marquez stopped champion Joel Casamayor for the first time in the Cuban's career with a dynamic flurry late in the 11th round, possibly setting up a fight with Manny Pacquiao.

AROUND THE HORN

Beach volleyball: Olympic gold medalists Misty May-Treanor and Kerri Walsh won the AVP Crocs Cup Shootout San Francisco, beating second-seeded Nicole Branagh, a former Gopher, and Elaine Youngs 21-16, 21-12.

MLS: Preston Burpo made four saves as Colorado shut out Chicago 2-0 in Commerce City, Colo.
