Wake Forest rallies to beat Va. Tech • WAKE FOREST 77, VIRGINIA TECH 75: Ishmael Smith nailed a hanging jumper with 0.6 seconds left to cap a stunning comeback in Winston-Salem, N.C., as the Demon Deacons (8-3) beat the Hokies (6-5) on Sunday in both teams' Atlantic Coast Conference opener. Smith finished with 18 points, the last a tough basket over Malcolm Delaney, as Wake erased an eight-point deficit in the final 82 seconds. The improbable 10-point run included a banked-in three-pointer from freshman Gary Clark -- who hadn't hit a three since the season opener -- that tied the score 75-75 with 48.5 seconds left.

• No. 7 WASHINGTON STATE 75, IDAHO STATE 45: Derrick Low scored 20 points, and Kyle Weaver had 18 to lead the Cougars (11-0) over the Bengals (2-8) in Pocatello, Idaho. The Cougars took control early and led by more than 20 points most of the second half.

• No. 22 MIAMI (FLA.) 95, NORTH CAROLINA A&T 64: Forced to miss the game's first 2:44 after leaving his jersey in the dressing room, Jack McClinton scored 17 points, and the Hurricanes defeated the Aggies (5-7) in Coral Gables, Fla. McClinton made up for his brief memory lapse once he entered the game, going 6-for-10 from the field and 3-for-6 from three-point range.

PURDUE 72, MISSOURI STATE 70: Chris Kramer's running layup with 13.6 seconds to play Sunday night gave the Boilermakers (8-4) a victory over Missouri State (7-5) at the Las Vegas Holiday Classic. Missouri State took a 70-69 lead with 20 seconds to play on a pair of foul shots from Justin Fuehrmeyer, but Kramer drove the length of the court on Purdue's next possession for the victory.

• PENN STATE 66, COLGATE 48: Geary Claxton scored 14 points, and Jamelle Cornley had 12 as the Nittany Lions (7-4) beat the Raiders (6-5) in State College, Pa.
