Peek at next year's draft With the Twins in line for a top-three pick in next June's amateur draft -- they had the majors' second-worst record behind Houston entering Friday -- it's never too early to look ahead. Baseball America ranks the top draft prospects like this: 1) Hard-throwing Stanford righthander Mark Appel; 2) multitalented Arizona State shortstop Deven Marrero; 3) run-producing University of Florida catcher Mike Zunino.

MacPhail's resignation coming? Industry insiders expect Andy MacPhail to resign soon as Baltimore's general manager. Manager Buck Showalter appears to have the most power in the organization, outside owner Peter Angelos, so Showalter is expected to have a big say in who replaces MacPhail.

"That's the beauty of being here; we expect to win," pitcher Roy Halladay said. "You convert to that quickly, coming from a team [in Toronto] where that wasn't the case."
