Outfielder Shin-Soo Choo's broken thumb could mean the end of his season, a damaging blow for a Cleveland team trying to win the division.
Choo was hit by a pitch at San Francisco on June 24. He had surgery Tuesday and is expected to miss eight to 10 weeks.
If he misses the rest of the season, it would end a horrible run for Choo, who got off to a bad start, was arrested for drunken driving in early May and was batting .244 with five home runs and 28 RBI when he was injured.
The Indians are expected to search outside the organization for an inexpensive outfielder.
