The Indians No. 3-4-5 starters -- Justin Masterson, Josh Tomlin and MitchTalbot -- are a combined 10-0 with a 2.18 ERA. Meanwhile, their top two pitching prospects are rising fast. Alex White, their top pick in the 2009 draft, was 1-0 with a 1.90 ERA with 28 strikeouts in 232/3 innings at Class AAA before being called up to face Detroit on Saturday. Lefthander Drew Pomeranz, last year's top pick, had a 2.00 ERA with 27 strikeouts in 18 innings in Class A and soon could be headed to AA.

The Chicago Tribune counted how many home-grown players each team has brought to the big leagues and turned into established big leaguers with three or more years on the active roster since 2001. The leaders were the Rockies (16), Twins (12), Angels (11), Athletics (10) and Cubs (9). The bottom had the Mariners and Nationals (5); Yankees, Mets and Padres (4); and White Sox (1). That was Aaron Rowand, whom the White Sox traded to the Phillies in the 2005 Jim Thome trade.

Tigers ace Justin Verlander was committed to having a better April this year. He went 2-3 with a 3.64 ERA. Might not sound great, but it was the first time in four years his ERA for the month was under 5.50.
