True to its name, Mendota Heights-based Sun Country Airlines is adding a sunny destination to its scheduled flights, with seasonal nonstop service between the Twin Cities and West Palm Beach, Fla., starting once a wintry chill descends upon Minnesota.

The new route will be the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport's lone nonstop service to West Palm Beach, an airport spokesman said.

"We look forward to continuing to grow our offering of seasonal destinations, and are happy to add a fifth Florida city to our network," Zarir Erani, the airline's president and CEO, said in a statement Wednesday announcing the new route.

Booking is now open, with service starting Dec. 16 out of Terminal 2 at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport. Flights will operate four times a week through April 16.

The maiden departure on Dec. 16 is scheduled at 7:25 a.m. for a flight of three hours and 20 minutes. A sample round-trip coach ticket runs about $350 when booking at www.suncountry.com.

Sun Country's other Florida destinations are Fort Myers, Orlando, Miami and Tampa-St. Petersburg.
