The sixth edition of Summit Brewing's popular Unchained series lands next week: A lovely-sounding pale ale dubbed Gold Sovereign Ale. Concocted by brewer Damian McConn, it is reportedly modeled after Victorian era pale ales and offers a fruity orange/apricot aroma. It's made with a Westminster base malt, which was approved for brewing in the UK just a few years ago. To add to the buzz (no pun intended), the beer will be bottled with Summit's new pry-off system, and not in twist-off bottles. Summit's Sovereign is not related to Goose Island's Sovereign, which is an ESB.

The Summit brew team really has been on a roll with these Unchained beers, so here's hoping this one lives up to its predecessors. The kegs will start hitting bars March 7, and there will be two tapping events on March 9 at the Blue Door Pub (3 p.m.) and the Turf Club (6 p.m.), with more to follow.
