Suit in Roseville fire station case dismissed

Roseville can move forward with its plans to build a new fire station on Lexington Avenue and upgrade its parks now that the Minnesota Supreme Court has refused to hear an appeal brought by a citizen's group that tried to sue the city.

Responsible Governance for Roseville (RGR), a group of eight citizens, claimed the city did not have authority to issue $27 million in general obligation bonds through the city's Port Authority. A Ramsey County District Court judge sided with the city. RGR took their case to the Minnesota Court of Appeals and ultimately to the state's highest court.

With the lawsuit out of the way, construction on the new Station 1 on land adjacent to City Hall at 2701 Lexington Avenue will begin as soon as bids are awarded.

The city also will begin the first phase of upgrading parks and facilities. Roseville's Master Plan calls for replacing or repairing worn-out tennis courts, playgrounds, picnic shelters and ball fields, along with general upgrades.
