Storm Slamming Northwest

Today marks the arrival of one of several storms set to slam into theNorthwest through the weekend. Rain, mountain snow and gusty winds willaccompany the storm through tonight. Pockets of freezing rain across theinterior valleys will also create slick conditions.Coastal British Columbia and northwestern Washington will bear the brunt of thestorm's fury. Between 12 and 18 inches will blanket the mountains, while rainsoaks the lower elevations. The heaviest rain and mountain snow will pour downtoday, while winds gust up to 45 mph.

Periods of rain and mountain snow will stream over the rest of the Northwestthrough tonight. Snow levels are currently at 5,000 feet in the WashingtonCascades, but a wintry mix of rain and ice is in store for the mountainpasses.
