Storm Late Next Week

January 10, 2010 at 8:25PM

An important storm triggering rain and potential snow will gather together nearthe western Gulf Coast on Thursday and Friday, then will follow an as-yetunclear track towards the Eastern Seaboard. What seems most likely at this time is that a widespread outbreak of rain, someheavy, will take place over the south-central and central United States byFriday.

Options for a storm track during Saturday and Sunday will include a southerlypath to the southern Atlantic coast or a more northerly track aimed for theheart of the East. The latter of these would yield substantial precipitation inthe East and even the Midwest. Access to any appreciable cold air from thenorth could lead to significant snowfall, potentially from the Great Lakes toNew England.
